Hiro is named after my dear friend Hiro, the wonderfully talented dyer who creates The Hare and The Crow’s vibrant colourways.
I visited her studio and went home with a few skeins in delightfully bright colours so I could knit a few stitches and decide which yarn bases I wanted to design with.
The yarn tasting almost instantly turned into an urge to knit a whole shawl!
One-colour brioche is a great stitch option for highly variegated yarns. When it is worked flat, it is particularly easy to master: a perfect introduction to brioche stitch! And the bouncy texture of brioche works incredibly well with the buttery smoothness of the chainette plied merino.
Meanwhile, the suri-silk was screaming “lace please”, so I indulged.
This is how Hiro became a playful texture sampler for curious knitters!

Yarn A: The Hare and the Crow, Hanten Chainette DK, 88% extra fine SW merino 12% nylon, chainette plied 400 m / 437 yds / 100 g.
Col. Strobe Light (variegated purple, neon pink, neon yellow). 1 skein / 360 m / 394 yds
Yarn B: The Hare and the Crow, Furisode Suri Silk Lace, 75% baby suri alpaca 25% silk, 210 m/ 229 yds / 25 g.
Col. Hawaiian Fun Barbie (neon peach). 1 skein / 180 m / 197 yds
NEEDLES AND NOTIONS
4.5 mm / US 7 circular needles or size required to obtain gauge

15 sts x 20 rows = 10 cm / 4” over brioche stitch after blocking
Gauge is not crucial but will affect yarn quantity requirements.

Le châle Hiro porte le nom de mon amie Hiro, la teinturière de talent qui crée les magnifiques coloris de The Hare et The Crow.
Je lui ai rendu visite au studio, et je suis repartie les bras chargés de merveilles colorées, juste « pour goûter » !
J’ai monté quelques mailles, et mon échantillon est vite devenu un projet de châle : impossible de résister !
La brioche unie est une maille qui se marie très bien avec les écheveaux multicolores, et qui est très simple à maîtriser quand elle est travaillée à plat. Une excellente introduction à la brioche ! Et le gonflant de la maille briochée est le parfait compagnon du fil chainette, lui-même léger, gonflant, presque crémeux !
Quant au suri, il me susurrait à l’oreille qu’il voulait être une bordure dentelle.
C’est ainsi que le châle Hiro est né, une invitation à l’exploration des textures !
